Back in 1973 when I was discharged from the Army,it was a challenge getting back to civilian life. (It wasn't easy being a VET in those days)  I started to ride an old Royce Union 3 speed that was in the back of my parents. After a while I purchased a Peugeot U-O8 (Yellow) and put a lot of miles on it. Back in those days I could ride all day in a pair of cutoff shorts and tennis shoes. My have times changed.

Sold the Peugeot in the early 90's during one of my moves and ended up regretting it. Saw an add for  '72 (Green) about 13 years ago and picked it up. Never could find a yellow one that wasn't really beat up.

The Peugeot is about 12 pounds lighter than my Continental, and that really makes a difference.

I have a blue, 1972 UO-8. It was a bit sad when I got it, both plastic Simplex derailleurs were cracked, and were replaced with Suntour AR stuff. Mine also got alloy 27" wheels and a Gyes leather copy of the original seat. The Mafac brakes and lyotard pedals were pretty decent components and just got serviced and put back on. I did put a set of planet bike fenders on it, I think I got them for free, and that was my only 27" bike at the time. I did put brake levers that had upper position levers on, as I'm 'kinda old, and creaky, and stay on the top a lot when I do ride it. I can't go too far on drop bar bikes anymore.
I'll have to get a picture of the old bike, next time I'm at my folks house.

That's a nice green color on that. I have a 1979 UO-9 in white. I refurbished it over last winter. It is mostly original and has the long cage Simplex derailleur on it. I had to built a front wheel for it. I found one of those steel rims with the bumpy stuff on the side walls at Trexlertown a few years back. Pictures soon.
