Sotheby's Auction Catalog.
Chicago  September 16 2000

This was the main sale program for the Schwinn Collection.  Much of the Schwinn company bike collection had been on display at a museum on Navy Pier in Chicago.

The program came with 3 pages of addendum.  During the auction I wrote the hammer price on the back side for all the Schwinn sales.

For some unknown reason Sotheby's combined a motorcycle sale on the same day.

Most of the Schwinn stuff sold for ~3x it's expected value, with the Bicycle Museum of America getting most of it. That museum is in New Bremem, Ohio and is worth the detour if you are passing nearby.

In a crappy turn, they took written bids on ~100s boxes of papers and small items. Prospective buyers were constantly shifting stuff from one box to another.  The box or item went to the highest bidder with their bid price plus the buyers premium and shipping.  Not like ebay where you only pay the bid increment over the next highest bidder.  So it was a crap shoot on what you would get in the mail later on.
